NSX consegue a 'pole'
A qualificação para a nona ronda do 2009
Autobacs Super GT, os Motegi GT 250Km, teve hoje lugar sob condições
climatéricas agradáveis no Twin Ring Motegi, em
Tochiki. Quem obteve a pole position na classe GT500 foi o Arta NSX
conduzido por Ralf Firman e Takuya Izawa. Isto colocará,
amanhã, o Honda NSX na frente da grelha da última
corrida da época.
O formato habitual da qualificação do
Super GT através da 'Super lap' com os autores dos oito
melhores tempos a realizar uma única volta lançada, foi
substituído em Motegi por um sistema 'Knock out' semelhante ao
utilizado no Mundial de Fórmula 1. Este sistema foi hoje
utilizado pela segunda vez esta época, já havia
acontecido em Suzuka, na 6.ª ronda do campeonato.
Nesta qualificação de 'bota fora', o Arta
NSX e o Petronas Tom's SC430 travaram uma dura luta contra o
cronómetro. Depois de 'limparem' as duas primeiras sessões,
na terceira lançaram-se num duelo pela 'pole'. Aí Ralph
Firman puxou dos galões e fez o melhor tempo do dia comuma
volta em 1:44,390, mas apenas um centésimo mais rápido
que Andre Lotterer no Lexus da Petronas Tom's.
Esta foi a primeira vez que a equipa Arta conseguiu uma
'pole position' e sexta de Firman nos Super GT. Esta será a
última corrida para os Honda NSX, que conseuiu a 47.ª
'pole' em 100 corridas (GT500), o melhor registo obtido por um só
modelo.
Em termos de campeonato, o líder Satoshi Motoyama
(Motul Autech GT-R) parte da quinta posição e uma
vitória ou um segundo lugar dá-lhe automaticamente o
título, mas os segundos classificados, Juichi Wakisaka e
Lotterer, partem dessa posição amanhã, por isso
5.º não é o melhor lugar para partir. Motoyama
parte em vantagem pontual e será muito difícil de
prognosticar o que seja no que diz respeito à decisão
do título.
Na classe GT300, o Ferrari da Daishin Advan de Takayuki
Aoki e Tomonobu Fujii conseguiram a terceira 'pole' na classe esta
época. A corrida desta classe promete igualmente muito emoção
já que são seis as equipas que ainda podem chegar ao
título, e cinco delas partem no top 10.

NSX takes pole position
The Qualifying for Round 9 of the 2009 AUTOBACS SUPER
GT, the MOTEGI GT 250km RACE, was held on November 7 under fair skies
at the Twin Ring Motegi (one lap 4.801 km) in Tochiki Prefecture. The
winner of the GT500 class pole position was the ARTA NSX driven by
Ralph Firman and Takuya Izawa. This will put the NSX machine in front
on the first row for the final race of the season on Sunday the 8th.
Normally, the SUPER GT qualifying is run in a Super Lap format
with each of the top qualifiers from the first session running a
single timed "Super Lap" one at a time. However, the 9th
round of the series here at Motegi adopts a "Knock Out"
system. In this system the timed qualifying runs are divided into
three sessions. In the first two sessions, the slowest qualifiers are
"knocked out" and cannot proceed to the next session. In
the final session, only the top qualifiers compete for grid position
with timed runs. This is the second time the Knock Out system has
been used this season, following round 6 at Suzuka.
In this Knock
Out qualifying, the ARTA NSX and the PETRONAS TOM'S SC430 staged a
fierce battle of the stopwatch. After clearing the first and second
sessions they moved on to a final face-off in the third session.
Here, Ralph Firman in the ARTA NSX punched out the fastest time of
the day with a 1 min. 44.390 sec. lap. Andre Lotterer in the PETRONAS
TOM'S SC430 also gave it his best shot but fell just 0.01 sec. short.
This result gave the pole position to the ARTA NSX.
This was the
first pole position of the season for the ARTA NSX team, and for
Firman the sixth of his GT career. This will be the last GT race for
the NSX car and this is the 47th pole position it has won in a total
of 100 races (GT500) races it has entered. This is the largest number
for any single model.
Looking at the season ranking, the leader,
Satoshi Motoyama (MOTUL AUTECH GT-R) will start from 5th position on
tomorrow's grid. Motoyama can clinch the title if his team finishes
2nd or 1st in Sunday's race, but with the 2nd ranked team of Juichi
Wakisaka and A. Lotterer (PETRONAS TOM'S SC430) have qualified 2nd
and the ARTA NSX team of R. Firman and T. Izawa sitting in pole
position, 5th is a difficult position to start from. However,
Motoyama still has the advantage in the point standings, and
considering the fact that this will be a title-deciding race, it is
very difficult to predict the outcome.
In the GT300 class, the
DAISHIN ADVAN Ferrari driven by Takayuki Aoki and Tomonobu Fujii won
its third class pole of the season.
There are still six teams in
contention for the driver title in the crowded GT300 class title
race. Of the six, five have qualified in the top ten today for
tomorrow's race. This guarantees that the GT300 race is going to be
every bit as intense and exciting as the GT500 race.
