Huff
ganha corrida 1
Robert
Huff da Chevrolet dominou a primeira das duas corridas de Macau do
Campeonato do Mundo de Carros de Turismo da FIA, este Domingo –
enquanto o segundo classificado Gabriele Tarquini ficou mais próximo
de agarrar o título do campeonato de pilotos.
Huff
teve o caminho livre no arranque, já que Andy Priaulx
deparou-se com problemas – ficando para trás no meio do
grupo e seguir dar um toque na parede à saída da 1ª
Curva, quando tentava ver-se livre dos rivais.
Os
problemas de Priaulx permitiram a Tiago Monteiro alcançar a
segunda posição logo muito cedo, com Gabriele Tarquini
a dar tudo por tudo para conseguir o terceiro lugar, quando se dêsse
a travagem para a Curva do Hotel Lisboa.
A
partir dali, Huff conseguiu manter uma vantagem sobre Monteiro até
à oitava volta, em que o piloto português da SEAT reduz
a velocidade e dá o segundo lugar a Tarquini.
Os
dois primeiros lugares cortaram a meta com uma diferença de
apenas 7.9 segundos – com o resultado a dar uma vantagem de
seis pontos à liderança de Tarquini sobre Yvan Muller,
que se encontrava à frente do campeonato na última
temporada.
Jordi
Gene terminou na terceira posição depois uma volta
caótica, com Augusto Farfus da BMW a deixar-se cair na última
volta, por forma a garantir terminar a corrida no oitavo lugar, que
lhe vai permitir assegurar a pole para a segunda corrida.
A
táctica de Farfus levou Alain Menu à quarta posição
na última volta, à frente de Yvan Muller – que
agora é o único homem capaz de evitar que Tarquini
agarre a coroa. Monteiro terminou na sexta posição, um
lugar à frente de Jorg Muller.
O
acidente de Priaulx na primeira volta danificou-lhe bastante a parte
da frente do carro, mas conseguiu regressar aos pits e fixá-lo,
juntando-se à corrida mesmo antes da bandeira axadrezada.

Chevrolet’s
Robert Huff dominated the first of the FIA World Touring Car
Championship races in Macau on Sunday – as runner-up finisher
Gabriele Tarquini moved a step closer to capturing the drivers’
title.
Huff
led away cleanly at the start as fellow front-row starter Andy
Priaulx hit trouble – falling back into the pack and then
clouting the wall at the exit of Turn One as he tried to fight off
his rivals.
Priaulx’s
problems allowed Tiago Monteiro to move up to second spot early on,
with Gabriele Tarquini charging through the order to be up to third
by the time the cars braked into Hotel Lisboa Bend.
From
there, Huff managed to open up a cushion over Monteiro until on lap
eight the Portuguese SEAT driver slowed down – handing second
place to Tarquini.
The
top two finishers eventually crossed the line 7.9 seconds apart –
with the result giving Tarquini a six point lead in the points table
over Yvan Muller ahead of the final race of the season.
Jordi
Gene eventually finished third after a chaotic closing lap to the
race, with BMW’s Augusto Farfus dropping down the order on the
final lap to secure himself the eighth place finish that gives him
pole position for the second race.
Farfus’
tactics meant Alain Menu moved up to fourth on the final lap, ahead
of Yvan Muller – who now is the only man capable of stopping
Tarquini capturing the crown. Monteiro eventually finished sixth, one
place ahead of BMW’s Jorg Muller.
Priaulx’s accident
on the first lap resulted in major damage to the right front of his
car, but he was able to return to the pits for repairs –
rejoining the action just before the chequered flag.
